For Thanksgiving '97 (actually that whole week) I went down to Peru for a short visit.  I flew in to Lima and from there I flew on to Cuzco, the Inca capital up in the Andes. There I spent a week being a tourist and looking at old stuff. Among other things, I visited Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas.

This was my goal for the trip - to visit Machu Picchu.
In the background you see the peak of Huayna Picchu,
which unfortunately was closed due to the fire that destroyed
most of the vegetation there.

Here's another picture of Huayna Picchu.

This is the road from the Puente Ruinas trainstation up to MachuPicchu.

This is the city of Cuzco, the old capital of the Incas.
The square is in the middle of the picture and you can see the airport to the far left.
